The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod has supported work in Liberia since 1978. The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Liberia (ELCL) was founded in 2009. The ELCL is a partner church of the LCMS. The LCMS currently supports leadership development for lay pastors by developing curriculum materials for a leadership training program.
